Duracell DPP-300EP Peace of mind

We live in a remote area and this was the perfect gift for a new teenage driver. He's already used the air on low tires a few times and says it was the best gift he could have gotten.

Duracell DPP-300EP air compressor works great

The portable starter came charged and just needed to be topped off for an hour or so with the included AC charger (the charge status is indicated by a series of LED lights). The air compressor takes about 20 seconds to increase tire pressure by 1 psi, and is great for keeping your tires at the right pressure without going to a gas station and paying for air. (I haven't needed to use the starter or inverter functions yet.)

Duracell DPP-300EP The minor details

This is a great product with a superior AGM battery as opposed to the other brands which have lead acid batteries. Some minor details include only being able to attempt to start your engine for 4 seconds. You have to wait 3 minutes before each try so as not to overheat the product. Also, the manual states you cannot leave the unit always hooked up so your car keeps it charged. Don't really know why. The air pump has a PSI gauge on the back that goes all the way up to 250 PSI which is not very useful as most people will only need the first half inch of the gauge for filling up tires. And lastly, the manual states that you should not use the AC power outlets while the unit is charging from your car. If you have any ideas why the manual is so paranoid about these things please leave a comment.

Duracell DPP-300EP Great for Tent Camping

I bought this item for tent camping. It easily powers motors that are rated at 250W or less (such as air pumps, etc.) Will recharge all my camping equipment and D-cell batteries. Might be a bit light on current for jumpstarting larger engines -- I haven't needed to find out. Two A/C outlets are a plus.

Duracell DPP-300EP So far so good ..

I mainly bought this to be able to jump start my car (as I have had issues with the battery dying) and to pump up the tyres at home. I have not had a chance to test jump starting my car as the battery was recently replaced under warranty.

The compressor was also a must for me as the car manual recommends inflating the tyres when they are cold and I keep forgetting to inflate them at the petrol station (where they are always hot anyway). The compressor is quite loud and the dial is accurate enough to be able to get a good reading.

The initial charge was overnight so it can take a while but this is not a major issue for me.

Duracell DPP-300EP Has some limitations

I've used this to inflate the tires on my car and it works just as well as my last compressor. There's even a gauge to show what the tire pressure is as I'm inflating.

OUTLETS

I used this on a camping trip to power my vacuum via the 12V DC socket. I also used it to power my ASUS eeepc netbook via the 12V AC socket. That was no problem.

There are two 12V AC sockets, so my husband tried plugging his notebook computer in while I had my netbook in. The fan started blowing as soon as he was plugged in and eventually a loud alarm sounded. I thought it was too much for the battery to have both units plugged in. When my husband tried his notebook in without anything else connected, he got another loud alarm. He has a large, 17" notebook. It was just too much of a strain on the battery. My netbook never got the alarm by itself.

I was camping for three days and I used the battery for a few hours the first two days with my netbook. The last day, the battery read empty, but it still had enough juice to power the vacuum.

FLASHLIGHT

The flashlight uses LED lights. It's bright white light, brighter than the flashlights we had brought with us to the campground. The LED lights are arranged so that the output forms the shape of Mickey Mouse and the light is not even but rather forms rings with light and dark areas, but it was sufficient enough for me to navigate my way through darkness.

JUMPER CABLES

I am happy never to have needed these cables but I'm glad they are there. If I should even use them, I will come back to update the review.

CONCLUSION

I am happy with the performance of this product. Had I been my husband, who wanted to use it for his notebook computer, I wouldn't have been so impressed. It's a great product to keep in the trunk for emergencies. Just keep in mind that the battery does have its limitations.
